It's been muggy and stormy here quite frequently, so I thought checking the radar would be a good move, as a few drizzles were coming down.
The radar showed just a smidge of light rain, followed by a large break in the clouds, so I figured I'd be good to go.
Well, the radar map lied. And true to form, I got to the farthest point from my house and the wind began whipping through the valley. Like, Twister wind. People's crap blowing off their porches, wind chimes from miles away audible. Dang. Then, the dark ominous clouds started looming. So dark that they even look darker than the night sky at midnight. Then, the pelting, monsoon rain and way-too-close-for-comfort thunder and lightning.
I literally was afraid for my life, remembering a story my friend Peter told about his football coach from high school being struck by lightning. I was running as fast as my soaked shoes could carry me, and then finally made it back to safety, and since I didn't die from the storm, I'll probably get trench foot from soaked-to-the-core shoes. Guess there's no returning them now! Just as a side, here is the CORRECT weather map when I returned. I live just at the top of Nicholasville, where the sign for US-27 is. Yeah. I'm badass.
It dawned on me when I was in an all out sprint that our bodies are capable of SO much, if we push them. I was going out for a leisurely, stress-reducing run, but I was able to run a lot faster than I expected. I think that's probably true for a lot of us this month as we push ourselves. Our bodies are capable of so much more than we push them to. So whether it's that extra sprint up the stairs, or 2 rounds of P90X, you can do it. I promise. Just pretend you're me, about to get pummelled by a storm. Oh, and during my next race, if someone could chase me with a shotgun, I bet it would improve my time.
I know that rain was hardcore last night. I got drenched in it too. I was out there putting away our crap so it wouldn't fly away. I was afraid I was going to get zapped too. How far was your run last night?
