I know some of the struggles I've had in my journey to health is perseverance. I think that at times when I'm working on something difficult, I will stop when I think I have arrived. I will have all of these amazing deadlines ready and when I get to the deadline, I'm like...DONE!
For example, I was working out and eating well before the wedding. I felt really great and felt that I was gaining a lot of insight on my health. Wedding, honeymoon and back to some old habits. I may or may not have eaten a lot of our wedding cake for a week. It was pretty awesome though. But obviously not the most nutrient dense way of supplying my body with fuel.
How do you keep going in a workout? Or eating well? Or writing out menus? Measuring portions?
For me, it's all about realistic goal setting. I try to run 3 nights a week - that leaves 2 "blowoff" days in a work week. And the way I get my butt out the door after a long day at work is by telling myself "it's better to run 1 mile than to run 0 miles." ...and of course always, after I've run that 1 mile, I find the strength for 2 more. That ends up being about 40 minutes -- less than I spend on facebook on a given day, but what a difference it makes for the girth of my belly. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that....better to run one than to run none. I'm going to remember that!
ReplyDeleteMusic can really help me keep going during my runs. That first mile is always a struggle for me, but once I'm through with that, everything else is fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm my worst critic, too. So if I'm being lazy, I can make myself feel really bad for not working out. And I have a motto: "I will do what I NEED to do before I can do what I WANT to do."
