Yummy Drink Discovery!

So, in an ongoing effort to work on #14: Limit my soda intake, I've been brainstorming about tasty replacements.

Since my kryptonite seems to be Mountain Dew in particular, I figured some type of citrus flavored beverage was in order. And I often crave fizzy, so those two were musts.

Jara introduced me to agave nectar, which I've found to be AMAZING. I started using it on my grapefruits, and it's SO much tastier than the refined sugar I had been using. It just compliments that citrus so well. Love it. It's actually sweeter than sugar, so you need less to sweeten, and can get away with a lot less calories. And, it has a much lower glycemic index and more nutritive value, so it's diabetic friendly, and MUCH better for health.

At any rate, I decided to whip up a couple drink concoctions, and BOY are they tasty! I could sip on these ALL day. If you're a soda-aholic like myself, give this drink a try!

Agave Blackberry Limeaid
Squeeze 1/2 lime into a large drinking glass, chilled.
Mix in 2-3 tsp. of raw agave nectar
Crush 2-3 blackberries into the glass (blackberries optional)
Add ice to your glass, and fill with club soda or tonic, chilled.
Stir lightly, and sip with a straw!

YUM. With 2-3 tsp. of agave nectar, you're looking at less than 60 calories from sugar, and a very healthy drink. Blackberries and limes are GREAT for the body and soul!

  1. Hm. This would be a great option to make available at a party as a virgin beverage. I'd love to be able to offer more fun non-alcoholic drinks than just soda.
